The "5G Academy", the first 5G academy in Italy, was born from a partnership between Federico II - through the Center for Metrological and Advanced Technological Services, CESMA - and Capgemini, with the goal of creating and empowering the workforce of the near future. A workforce provisioned with highly specialized resources in areas of business relevance, enriched by transversal and heterogeneous skills.

Going beyond traditional research and advanced training, participants will acquire basic consultancy and sector skills, enhance their technical skills, and contribute to the development of sector-specific business cases. In addition, the training course will encourage and strengthen their digital mindset and entrepreneurial spirit.
The training activities, starting in January 2020 and ending in July 2020,  will be developed at San Giovanni a Teduccio.

The 5G Academy does not only target scientific-technological degrees, but also economics and humanities. In this first edition, a court composed of 50% of graduates in STEM disciplines, 30% in economic disciplines, and 20% in sociological / legal / psychological disciplines, has been identified.

The training plan, which reflects this diversity, consists of four phases: the first two consist of general training, the third of sector training, in which training paths are outlined according to the students background, and the fourth of project works, in which participants are divided into mixed groups based on their profiles and work on the development of concrete business cases and related prototypes. Leveraging the training provided in the first 3 phases, the idea in the fourth phase is to have a highly specialized heterogeneous table (with different and complementary skills), which at the same time possesses a common language, acquired during the first 3 phases, allowing each resource to contribute to the digital transformation with a multiplier effect. In the fourth phase, divided into 10 weeks, students divided into work teams will develop corporate projects on current hot topics, such as IoT, Digital Manufacturing, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud technologies, leveraging the key technologies of 5G.
Along their path, they will be accompanied by the technological partners involved, TIM and PTC, who will support the drafting of business cases and the development of specific technical skills.

The academy was born with the aim of training the new professional skills required by the digital transformation of 5G, spreading digital skills, and creating more employment opportunities for young people. The best students, in fact, will have the opportunity to be hired and become part of Capgemini's Transformation Consulting.
