The Digital Transformation Lab (DTLab) is a joint initiative between CISCO and Federico II (through CeSMA) aimed at creating an advanced network laboratory equipped with teaching stations and a room with the latest CISCO network technologies and finalized to the co-innovation between CISCO and Federico II.
The laboratory also launched a training initiative called DTLab Networking Bootcamp which trains experts in modern networking technologies capable of developing innovative applications for programmable network infrastructures in the Industry 4.0 technological context. The DTLab provides a specialized course focused on learning modern network technologies, including those enabling the paradigm of Edge / Fog Computing, Network Programmability and Cybersecurity.
The training course is developed with a methodology based on the integration between face-to-face training, autonomous learning, and experiential teaching based on team work for the solution of practical challenges with increasing difficulty. The second edition of the DTLab Networking Bootcamp runs from November 2019 to June 2020 and includes lectures, tutorials, independent study, group work development and project work/stage.
Students attending the bootcamp are required to be present two days a week for participation in the educational activities that take place at the San Giovanni a Teduccio technology center of Federico II University and at the premises of partner companies. Participation in training sessions in the laboratory is, however, accompanied by an independent study of the participants.
The complete educational path is divided into two phases.
The first phase aims to acquire the basic skills necessary to develop innovative solutions based on the paradigm of network programmability.
In particular, participants are trained on the contents of the following Cisco NetAcad courses:
- CCNA R&S: Introduction to Networks
- CCNA R&S: Routing and switching essentials
- Introduction to Packet Tracer
- Programming Essentials in Python
- NDG Linux Essentials
- Cybersecurity Essentials
- IoT Fundamentals: Connecting Things
- Experimenting with REST APIs using Webex Teams
At the end of this first period, participants have the opportunity to achieve the CISCO CCENT certification.
The second phase aims to develop the ability to apply the skills acquired in the first period to create solutions based on Cisco DevNet technologies, with an in-depth analysis of the topics of Network Automation, Edge Computing, the Internet of Things and Cyber Security. The second phase includes a project-work activity which ends with the development of a group project.
